Hockey World Cup 2023 : Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated the FIH Hockey World Cup at Barabati Stadium in the presence of Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Disha Patani enthralled the audience with their scintillating performances. Along with this, Global girl music group BlackSwan also gave a tremendous performance. Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, FIH International Hockey Federation and Hockey India officials along with over 50,000 spectators attended the mega event. Patnaik presided over the opening ceremony of this global sports hockey carnival, which is being organized by the state government for the second time in a row in Odisha.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed happiness over the return of the FIH Hockey World Cup to Odisha. They officially welcomed Hockey home with grand celebrations. Patnaik said that I am sure all the guests will take back great memories from Odisha. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for everyone's support in hosting the mega sporting event in the state. The World Cup matches will be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela from January 13 to 29.

He thanked the Chief Minister of Odisha and the state government for organizing such a beautiful opening ceremony and said that it shows the love India and Odisha have for hockey. He said that after a gap of 40 years, the Indian men's team had won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.
