The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda ji is celebrated with full enthusiasm and joy in India as the National Youth Day “Youth Day” or “Swami Vivekananda Birthday”. Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January in the year 1863 on the seventh date of Krishna Paksha of Paush month. The birthday of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated every year at the centers of Ramakrishna Mission, Ramakrishna Math and many of their branch centers according to Indian culture and tradition. It is celebrated to remember the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, the creator of modern India. It was first declared by the Indian government in the year 1984 to celebrate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day. Since then the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated every year on 12 January as National Youth Day. The Diwan of Alwar, Raja Mangal Singh, invited Vivekananda to meet him in 1891. Mangal Singh told Vivekananda that “Swamiji, all these people worship idols. I don't believe in idol worship. what will happen to me?" At first Swamiji said that "Happy faith to everyone." Then thinking something, Swamiji asked to bring the picture of the king. When the oil painting of the king was brought down from the wall, Swamiji asked the Diwan to spit on the picture. The Diwan started looking at him with strange eyes. Then Swamiji said that this is just a piece of paper, yet you are feeling hesitant in it because you all know that it is the symbol of your king? Swamiji said to the king, “You know this is only a picture, yet you will feel humiliated if you spit on it. The same applies to all those who worship an idol made of wood, clay and stone. They do not worship these metals but the symbol of their God.
Ban on entry of women in the monastery
Swami Vivekananda was firm in rules and regulations. The rules he made were applicable to everyone. Entry of any woman was prohibited in Swami Vivekananda's Math. Once Swamiji became ill, so his disciples allowed his mother to enter the monastery to see him, but Swamiji became very angry on this matter. Vivekananda scolded his disciples and said, "Why did you let a woman in? I made the rules and rules are being broken for me!” Vivekananda clearly told the disciples that no rule of the Math should be broken even for them.
