Kerala journalist Siddiq Kappan was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court, but despite this he will have to remain in jail. PRO Santosh Verma of DG Jail said that ED's investigation against Kappan is still pending. As such, he cannot be released from jail now. While ordering Kappan's release, Additional Sessions Judge Pravesh Mishra asked him to produce two zamindars of Rs 1 lakh each and a personal bond of the same amount. At the same time, the judge had also asked the journalist to produce an affidavit that he would not violate the conditions imposed by the apex court.

Siddiq Kappan was arrested by the police in Mathura along with three others Athiqur Rehman, Alam and Masood. He was accused of having links with the PFI and conspiring to incite violence. He was arrested under IPC, UAPA and IT Act. The Supreme Court had on Friday granted bail to Kappan. During this, many conditions were imposed on him. Under this, he will have to stay in Delhi for the next six weeks after his release from jail. During this, attendance will have to be given at Nizamuddin police station every Monday.
