Temple Stampede / Sudden stampede at Haridwar's Mansa Devi temple, 6 devotees died

A stampede occurred at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand on Sunday morning due to heavy crowd and rumor. 6 devotees died in the accident, while 15 are injured. The injured are being treated. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences and is monitoring the relief work.

Temple Stampede: A sad news has come from Haridwar, Uttarakhand. 6 people died while 15 people were seriously injured due to a sudden stampede at the Mansa Devi temple on Sunday morning. The incident took place near the staircase of the temple, where a huge crowd of Shiva devotees had gathered in the month of Sawan. Police and rescue teams are engaged in relief work on the spot.

Cause of stampede: Rumor and crowd pressure

District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that some devotees were climbing towards the temple with the help of an electric wire. Then suddenly a rumor spread that there was current running in the wire. This rumor created panic among the devotees, due to which a stampede occurred. In the month of Sawan, a huge crowd of devotees is gathering to offer water in the temples of Haridwar. Apart from this, the roads were waterlogged and slippery due to monsoon rains. The situation worsened as the path leading to the temple was high, narrow and steep.

Quick action of administration

As soon as the information of the incident was received, Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and Kotwali in-charge Ritesh Shah reached the spot. Confirming the stampede, the Kotwali in-charge said that the injured were immediately rushed to the district hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The local administration and police are engaged in controlling the situation.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep grief over this accident. He wrote on social media platform X,

Very sad news has been received about the stampede on the Mansa Devi temple road in Haridwar. Local police and other rescue teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard and the situation is being constantly monitored. I pray to Mata Rani for the safety of all the devotees.

Crowd increased in Sawan, challenge before the administration

Due to the month of Sawan, a huge crowd of Shiva devotees is being seen in Haridwar. Devotees are coming from far and wide to offer water and take darshan at the Mansa Devi temple. However, the narrow path leading to the temple and adverse weather conditions made this accident even more serious. The administration now faces a big challenge of crowd management and ensuring the safety of devotees.
