In this match played on Sunday evening of 5th May at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Kolkata Knight Riders once again defeated the home team by 98 runs. With this, KKR has secured the first position in the table with 16 points. Once again, the star of KKR's victory was all-rounder Sunil Narine, who first played an explosive inning of 81 runs and then also took a wicket with economical bowling.

Big scores were seen continuously in this season but Ekana Stadium was the only ground where till date the figure of 200 was not touched even once. Kolkata's batting power also did this and made a tremendous score of 235 runs with aggressive batting. Now, although Punjab Kings had created history by chasing 262 runs against Kolkata, but this time KKR bowlers did not make that mistake and Lucknow did not give them a chance to do so.

Strong attack of Salt-Naren

Once again Phil Salt and Narine made an explosive start for Kolkata and completed 50 runs within 4 overs. After the dismissal of Phil Salt in the fifth over, Narine's attack continued, who completed his third half-century of the season in 27 balls and had scored 81 runs in 39 balls before being dismissed in the 12th over. Also the team was taken to 140 runs.

Andre Russell, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh could not play big innings but the team had already got a fast start. After this, captain Shreyas Iyer and Ramandeep Singh played short but quick innings in the last overs and took the team to 235 runs. Naveen Ul Haq took 3 wickets for Lucknow.

Lucknow faltered after a fast start

In response, Lucknow Super Giants tried to make a fast start but in the second over itself, Ramandeep Singh ran 21 meters and took an excellent catch to dismiss Arshin Kulkarni. Then Rahul and Marcus Stoinis took over the innings and made a quick partnership of 50 runs. Fast bowler Harshit Rana (3/24), who returned to the team after a one-match ban, broke the partnership by dismissing Rahul (25) and the collapse started from here.

Andre Russell (2/17) gave the biggest blow to Lucknow. Russell, who failed to bat, took the wickets of Lucknow's two most powerful batsmen, Marcus Stoinis (36) and Nicholas Pooran (10) in two consecutive overs. From here the defeat of Lucknow was certain. After this, Varun Chakraborty (3/30), Sunin Narine (1/22) and Harshit did not take much time in dismissing the rest of the batsmen and the entire team was bundled out for only 137 runs in 16.1 overs.
