IND Vs AFG: After starting the new year with a great and historic victory, the Indian cricket team is ready to land on the field once again. In the first examination of the new year, Team India is to face Afghanistan and the squad has been announced for this. The selection committee has announced Team India for the T20 series starting next week against Afghanistan. The biggest news is that Rohit Sharma will be the captain of Team India. Also, Virat Kohli has also returned to the T20 team. Both star players are returning to this format after November 2022.

The 3 -match T20 series between India and Afghanistan will begin on January 11. This is the last International T20 series of Team India before the T20 World Cup 2024. In such a situation, the most eyes were on the fact whether Rohit and Virat would return? Both the players were out of this format since the defeat of the World Cup semi -final against England in November 2022. The question was also that who will get captaincy from Hardik and Rohit?

Return after 14 months

On Sunday 7 January, all these answers were received. Providing all the speculation right, the selection committee has given both legendary players a chance to return to the team. Rohit and Virat were out of this format for the last 14 months. At the same time, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are not part of this series due to not being fully fit yet. In such a situation, it was even easier for the selectors to take a decision on the captaincy and Rohit Sharma has got this responsibility.

Ishan-Srees also out

At the same time, explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has not found a place for this series. Ishan was earlier part of the T20 series on the tour of South Africa. However, he withdrew his name from the Test series citing mental fatigue and took a break from cricket for some time. In such a situation, he was not selected for this series either. However, the BCCI has not told whether Ishan is still not available for return or the selectors decided not to choose them themselves.

Apart from him, middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer has also been dropped from this series. He was part of the series against South Africa. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj have been given rest from this series, so that they will be refreshed for the Test series starting on January 25 against England.
