Jammu-Kashmir News: Heavily armed terrorists have ambushed two army vehicles in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. So far, five soldiers have been martyred and two have been injured in this terrorist attack. Officials said that Jaish-e-Mohammed's front PAFF has taken responsibility for this attack. Vehicles were taking soldiers to the search operation site

Officials said vehicles carrying army personnel to the site of a cordon and search operation were attacked around 3.45 pm yesterday at Dhatyar turn between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz under Surankot police station. Two former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir – Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mehbooba Mufti have strongly condemned the attack. The People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), the Pakistan-based wing of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the ambush. Defense Department Public Relations Officer in Jammu, Lieutenant Colonel Sunil Bartwal said that based on "strong intelligence" about the presence of terrorists, a joint search operation was launched on Wednesday night in Dhera Ki Gali area of Poonch district.

Terrorists took away soldiers' weapons

Officials said the soldiers were moving towards the spot when the terrorists opened fire on two vehicles - a truck and a gypsy. A defense spokesperson said the forces responded quickly to the attack. Officials said that five soldiers were martyred and two others were injured in this ongoing operation. The injured have been admitted to hospital. He told that the operation is going on. Officials said there is a possibility that the terrorists may have taken away the weapons of the soldiers who were attacked. So far 19 security personnel have been martyred and 28 terrorists have been killed in encounters this year in Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi districts. A total of 54 people have been killed in these encounters.
