Captain Anshuman Singh: Daughter-in-law has left our house. She has also changed her address. We do not have any memento of receiving Kirti Chakra. We are not even worthy of putting Kirti Chakra on our son's photo. Everything was given to the daughter-in-law. Now the rules of this award should be changed. Daughters-in-law run away from home. In such a situation, the parents do not get anything. This is what the parents of Kirti Chakra awardee martyr Anshuman Singh say. On Tuesday, they went to Rae Bareli and met MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and put forth this matter. They say - We have also raised this issue in front of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

Father said - We do not have any proof of receiving Kirti Chakra

Martyr Anshuman's father Ravi Pratap Singh is retired from the army as JCO. He says - Daughter-in-law Smriti took everything from here. She also changed her address. We do not even have any receipt of Kirti Chakra. That too was taken by the daughter-in-law.

Mother Manju Singh said- Daughters-in-law run away. Parents should also be respected. We requested Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi that in the family of youth martyred in the army, parents should also be taken care of apart from the daughter-in-law.

Father Ravi Pratap Singh said- My son was martyred 3 months after marriage. A few days after that, daughter-in-law Smriti left the house. When the honor was given, my wife was also called along with Smriti. But, the honor was given only to daughter-in-law Smriti. Daughter-in-law lives separately. That's why nothing came to us. I have nothing except son's photo. Even we did not get the Kirti Chakra badge to put on his (Anshuman's) photo.

'We had married with great dreams'

Martyr Anshuman Singh's father Ram Pratap Singh while talking to Aaj Tak said that we had married Smriti with the consent of our son. We had married with great pomp and dreams. Neither we nor Smriti's family members kept any shortcomings in the marriage. We were all very happy. After marriage, Smriti started living in the flat with my daughter who was studying BDS in Noida.

'We were ready to get Smriti married

He said, 'When my son was martyred on 19 July 2023, daughter-in-law Smriti and daughter were in Noida. I called both of them to Lucknow by cab and from Lucknow we went to Gorakhpur. The last rites were performed there. But the very next day of the thirteenth day, daughter-in-law Smriti insisted on going home.' Ram Pratap Singh said, 'When Smriti's father cited the entire life of the daughter, I myself said that now she is not my daughter-in-law but my daughter and if Smriti wants, then both of us will get her married again and I will send her off as my daughter.'

'Smriti left for Noida the day after the thirteenth day'

He further told, 'Smriti left for Noida with her mother the day after the thirteenth day. In Noida, she took everything related to my son, his photo, his wedding album, certificate, clothes and went to her parents. We came to know about this when my daughter went back to Noida and there was no belongings of my son Anshuman in the flat.'

Martyr Anshuman's father said, 'When the son was awarded the Kirti Chakra for his indomitable courage, the rule was that both the mother and wife go to receive this award. Anshuman's mother also went with him. The President gave the Kirti Chakra on my son's martyrdom but I could not even touch it once.'

'Messaged, called but there was no response'

Recalling that ceremony, Anshuman's mother Manju Singh said, 'On July 5, Smriti and I went together to the program held in Rashtrapati Bhavan. When we came out of the ceremony, on the insistence of the army officers, the Kirti Chakra came into my hand once again for taking a photo, but as soon as the photo was taken, Smriti took that Kirti Chakra again. Never again did we get to feel the honour of our son's martyrdom.'

Ram Pratap Singh, who is retired from the army, says, 'When the government decided to install a statue in memory of our martyr son, we messaged our daughter-in-law. We told her father to bring the Kirti Chakra at least once for the statue unveiling ceremony, but there was no response.'

Smriti said - whoever thinks, he will say the same

On the allegations of Captain Anshuman's parents, Smriti said - I do not have any information right now. Whoever thinks, he will say the same. I have no objection. I have just come out. First send the video. Then we will call. Wife Smriti is an engineer by profession and her parents are school principals.

Smriti's father refused to say anything

When our team reached Smriti's house in Dinanagar, Punjab, we met her father Rajesh Saini there. Rajesh Saini refused to comment on the allegations of Smriti's in-laws. He said that Smriti has gone out somewhere right now and she will return home by late evening. If Smriti has something to say in this whole matter, then she will give her side. No other member of our family has anything to say on the allegations made by Smriti's in-laws.

Rajesh Saini also said that our family came to know about the allegations made by Smriti's in-laws from the media only.
