A five-foot-tall fiber-made statue of Maa Kali, made in the streets of Kumartuli, a colony of potters, will adorn the British Museum from May 17. Artisan Kaushik Ghosh told that the Camden Durga Puja Committee, a committee of NRI Bengalis in London, approached him in December to make the idol. In about one and a half months, he prepared an idol weighing 35 kg.

The British Museum is soon going to organize an exhibition of sculptures, sacred objects and artifacts from around the world to show the faces associated with women power. Ghosh said that keeping in mind the theme of the exhibition, good quality fiber and paint were used in making the idol. The idol ornaments are gold plated. The statue will be displayed in Britain along with the Egyptian god Sekhmet and the Greek's Athena.

Efforts to understand women empowerment

According to the website of the British Museum, an attempt will be made to understand women empowerment in ancient times through the exhibition.

The website states that from wisdom, passion and desire to war, justice and mercy, the expression of female spiritual forces around the world prompts us to reflect on how we currently view womanhood and gender identity. .

The film will also be shown to the public: Anand Gupta, chairman of the Camden Durga Puja committee, said the museum's Kate McSweeney had contacted the goddess to understand her importance in Hinduism and people's lives. McSweeney and his colleagues also witnessed the black worship organized by the Camden Committee. A film made by Maxweenie will also be shown to the public.
