By Election Result / There was a stir in Congress after the defeat in the by-election, Shakti Singh resigned

In the by-elections of two assembly seats of Gujarat, BJP won Kadi and Aam Aadmi Party won Visavadar seat. Congress lost in both the seats, after which state president Shakti Singh Gohil took moral responsibility and resigned. Gopal Italia and Rajendra Chavda got big victories.

By Election Result: The results of the recent by-elections on two assembly seats in Gujarat - Visavadar and Kadi - have come out, in which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have won one seat each. While these results have strengthened both the winning parties, the Congress has suffered a major setback. Taking moral responsibility for the party's defeat, state president Shakti Singh Gohil has resigned from his post.

Shakti Singh Gohil resigns

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shakti Singh Gohil announced his resignation in a press conference after the results. He said, "The results of the by-elections were not as per our expectations. Therefore, I have resigned from the post of Congress state president." Gohil was appointed state president in June 2023 to improve the party's performance in the 2024 general elections.

AAP's big win in Visavadar

Aam Aadmi Party's state president Gopal Italia defeated BJP's Kirit Patel by a margin of 17,554 votes in Visavadar seat, strengthening the party once again in Gujarat. According to the Election Commission, Gopal Italia got 75,942 votes, while the BJP candidate got 58,388 votes.

At the same time, in the Kadi seat of Mehsana district reserved for Scheduled Castes, BJP's Rajendra Chavda defeated Congress's Ramesh Chavda. Rajendra Chavda got 99,742 votes, while Ramesh Chavda was reduced to 60,290 votes. For BJP, this victory is an indication of the strong support base of the organization.

Change in political equations

These by-elections have made it clear that the contest in Gujarat politics is now becoming triangular. While BJP is maintaining its hold, Aam Aadmi Party is slowly emerging as a strong alternative to Congress in the opposition. For Congress, these results are a sign of serious introspection.
