BBL 2024: Big Bash League is currently being played in Australia. Something happened in this league on Sunday which created a sensation. This has rarely been seen in cricket. The case is of the match played between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers. Both the teams were playing the match at the GMHBA Stadium in Geelong but the match ended in just 6.5 overs. The pitch was very bad and uneven bounce was seen due to which the batsmen were facing problems. The result was that this match had to be cancelled.

In this match, Melbourne team won the toss and decided to bowl first. Perth Scorchers came into bat and lost two wickets. Stephen Eskinzi was out without opening the account on the second ball of the first over. The second opening batsman Cooper Connelly was also out after scoring six runs.

Batsmen faced difficulty

During this period the batsmen were facing a lot of trouble. Aaron Hardy and Josh English were playing at the crease but English was having a lot of trouble playing in the seventh over. There was no idea about the ball and where the ball was going. Its video is going viral on social media, in which it can be seen that wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock was also looking quite surprised while holding the ball back because he too could not understand where the ball was going. Then English complained about this to the on-field umpires and after testing, the match was cancelled.

This is the reason

There was a lot of rain in Geelong before Sunday. The ground staff tried hard to dry the ground. Due to rain the pitch was kept under covers overnight. Melbourne captain Nick Maddison had described the pitch as very wet and sent the scorchers to bat first. The umpire of this match, Ben Troller, while talking to Channel Seven, said that the last ball that was bowled was quite strange. He said that after seeing the ball it came to his mind that this pitch was very dangerous and that was the reason why the match was cancelled. Scorchers captain Ashton Turner said that there were questions about the pitch even before the start of the match but they still tried.
