Two more accused in the killing of Bajrang Dal worker Harsha in Shivamogga were arrested on Wednesday after the hijab controversy erupted in Karnataka. Violence erupted in some areas of Shivamogga after the murder. After this the curfew imposed in Shivamogga has been extended till Friday, February 25. State Home Minister Arga Gyanendra said that eight people have been arrested so far in connection with the murder.

Gyanendra said that orders have been given to investigate the police personnel of two police station areas of Shivamogga regarding murder and violence. He said that there is a need to audit the performance of Kota and Doddapet police stations. We will see how many policemen are posted in these police stations for the last five years and how they used to keep a watch on these eight arrested accused even though they have a huge criminal record. Policemen who behave irresponsibly in these incidents will not be spared.

DIG East Zone of Shivamogga Dr.K. Thiagarajan said the situation in the city was under control and was improving rapidly. Sufficient force has been deployed. 20 battalions of KSRP and RAF have been deployed. Security forces also conducted a flag march in the area on Tuesday to restore confidence in the law and order situation among the general public.

On Tuesday, Shivamogga SP BM Lakshmi Prasad had said that six people have been arrested in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Harsha. Harsha was murdered on Sunday night with a knife and sharp weapons. Elected minister from Shivamogga Gyanendra said on Wednesday that eight have been arrested so far in the murder case. Some others are also being interrogated. Gyanendra said that the background check of all the criminals will be done.

When asked whether Harsha's murder was due to the ideology of fanatic Hindutva? Gyanendra said that this will be revealed after a detailed investigation. The government is not treating this murder as a simple murder. We will bring to the fore the forces behind it. Most of the accused have a long criminal history. Gyanendra said that Shivamogga has become a refuge for criminals across Karnataka. In such a situation, if the responsibility is not fixed, then such elements will spread further.
