In the country's financial capital Mumbai, the local train is the lifeline of the metropolis, while the metro is adding new dimensions to urban transport. On the occasion of Gudi Padwa (Hindu New Year) on April 2, transport will start on two new lines of Mumbai Metro.

On March 25, the Commissioner of Railway Safety allowed the running of metro trains on the new lines at a maximum speed of 70 km. After this, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) decided to partially open these new corridors from 5 am to 11 pm daily from April 3.

Mumbai Metro-2A will run from Dahisar to Dahanukarwadi. Whereas Metro-7 will run between Dahisar to Aarey Colony. With this, the length of Mumbai Metro's network will increase to 50 km from the current 12 km. Metro-2A is on the corridor link road from Dahisar (East) to DN Nagar (Andheri West), while Metro-7 is from Dahisar (East) to Andheri (East) on the Western Express Highway. The work is expected to be completed by October. After this, the running of metro on these two new lines will start completely.

MMRDA official said that we have decided to partially operate Metro from Gudi Padwa on both these lines. Metro will run on these lines for 18 hours daily. The metro running on the new lines will have six coaches. These will run with an interval of 10–10 minutes. The fare will be from 10 to 40 rupees. This will facilitate movement of about 10 lakh passengers daily. Along with this, the pressure of vehicles on the roads of the metropolis will also be reduced and there will be less congestion in local trains and BEST buses.
