Chandrashekhar Azad / Violence in Prayagraj, stones pelted on police and people after Chandrashekhar was stopped

There was a huge uproar in Karchana of Prayagraj on Sunday. Supporters got angry when Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad was stopped. There was violence, stone pelting, vandalism and arson on the streets for two hours. The policemen ran away. So far 20 activists are in custody and preparations are on to invoke NSA and Gangster Act.

Chandrashekhar Azad: A horrific scene of violence and chaos was witnessed in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. After Bhim Army chief and MP Chandrashekhar Azad was stopped from going to Kaushambi, his supporters created a ruckus in Karchana area. The furious mob created a ruckus on the streets for about two hours, causing panic and chaos in the city.

Violence started after Chandrashekhar was stopped

On Sunday afternoon, Chandrashekhar Azad was going from Prayagraj to Kaushambi, but the police put him under house arrest. In protest against this, Bhim Army supporters got angry and started violent protests in Karchana area. Soon the mob started targeting Bhadewara market and started throwing bricks and stones at the police and common citizens on the streets.

The ruckus lasted for two hours

The market and its surrounding areas remained in the grip of violence for about two hours. The miscreants targeted roadways buses and private vehicles, burning many vehicles. The police vehicle of Dial 112 was overturned and the policemen of Karchana police station and nearby posts also had to run away to save their lives. The crowd was so violent that the police had to retreat from the spot.

Police situation and counter action

In view of the seriousness of the violence, Additional CP (Crime) Dr. Ajaypal Sharma took charge of the spot with heavy police force and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). The situation was brought under control by around 5:30 pm. After this, a search operation was started and CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the miscreants.

Action taken so far

The police have detained 20 workers of Bhim Army involved in the violence. The administration is preparing to take action against the accused involved in the violence under the National Security Act (NSA) and Gangster Act. Along with this, compensation for the damage caused to government property during the violence will be recovered from the accused.
