IND vs AFG | Right-handed batsman Virat Kohli scored his first century in international cricket after 1020 days. Although he had already scored 70 centuries, there was a gap of 1020 days between 70 and 71st international century. He filled this gap in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan on 8 September, when he scored a historic century. He has dedicated this century to his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika Kohli.

Talking to the official broadcasters of Asia Cup 2022, Virat Kohli said, "The last two and a half years have taught me a lot. I am going to turn 34 in a few months. The atmosphere of the team opened up. And the team has been helpful. I know a lot of talk was going on. I kissed my ring. You see me standing here because there's one person who sacrificed things for me. That's Anushka. This The century is for him and also for our daughter Vamika."

He continued, "When you have someone who is talking about keeping things in perspective, like Anushka has been, it's a big deal. When I came back, I wasn't dejected. Six weeks off. After that I refreshed. I realized how tired I was. Competition doesn't allow it, but this break allowed me to enjoy the game again."
