Speaking at a press conference ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup, Kohli said, "It was a challenging call, but we decided to back Rahul Chahar for a reason." He has bowled consistently in the last several IPL seasons. A bowler who bowls with Paes, he did well in Sri Lanka and in the home series against England. Rahul was the bowler who bowled difficult overs. We are taking the assumption in the tournament that as the pitch slows down, he will cause more trouble to the bowler who bowls with the pace than to the bowler who has bowled the ball. Rahul obviously has that ability. He is one of those bowlers who always target the wicket, and that is what has gone in his favour. Picking a World Cup team is a tough job and you can't always keep everyone in the squad.

Virat told how Dhoni as a mentor will prove beneficial for the team. "He has a lot of experience," he said. He himself is eager to get into this environment. He has been our mentor from the time we started our career and he has played this role very well till our stay in the team. Those young players will be greatly benefited, who have come to play such a big tournament for the first time. His eyes against a complex problem and his advice during practice will improve our game by at least one to two percent. We are very happy with his presence. His presence will not only boost our spirits but will also boost our confidence further.
