Geneva: An advisory post shared by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has grabbed the attention of netizens. The committee shared a PSA issued during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. It is about the importance of wearing masks. The organisation also pointed out the similarity of that period with the present times.

The advisory talking about the importance of wearing masks is relevant in the present time.

"Wear a mask and save your life," the advisory said. It mentioned that doctors and nurses could not be obtained to take care of the afflicted.

It advised, "You must wear a mask, not only to protect yourself but your children and your neighbor from influenza, pneumonia and death."

"Doctors wear them. Those who do not wear them get sick. The man or woman or child who will not wear a mask now is a dangerous slacker," it added.

While sharing the advisor which was released 102 years ago, ICRC said, "We said it in 1918. We're saying it in 2020."

Posted on October 2, the post has garnered over 5,200 likes along with over 2,500 retweets. From lauding the committee’s important message to pointing out how masks are an important safety gear, people dropped all sorts of comments.
