WhatsApp banned over 23 lakh Indian accounts in July. The social messaging platform said this in its monthly compliance report submitted on Thursday. WhatsApp said that it has banned more than 23.87 lakh Indian accounts during July 2022. Out of this, more than 14 lakh accounts were deleted before any complaint by the user.

Giving this information on Thursday, WhatsApp said that the figures for July are the highest in any month of the current financial year so far. WhatsApp banned over 22 lakh Indian accounts in June 2022 based on complaints and violations received through its grievance redressal channel. At the same time, the company had closed 19 lakh such accounts in May, 16 lakh in April and 18.05 lakh in March.

Under the new information technology rules that came into force last year, large digital platforms (with over 50 lakh users) are required to publish compliance reports every month, mentioning details of complaints received and action taken. WhatsApp, in its monthly compliance report, said 23,87,000 accounts were banned between July 1, 2022 and July 31, 2022. Of these, 14,16,000 accounts were actively banned prior to any reports from users.
