World Cup 2024: T20 World Cup 2024 is to be played in West Indies and America. Team India has started its preparations for this tournament with the 5-match T20 series being played against Australia. But it is not yet clear who will take command of the Indian team in this tournament. At the same time, Rohit Sharma has also been away from T20 format for the last one year. Amidst all this, a big update has come out on Rohit's return to the team.

Rohit Sharma may return to T20 team

According to reports, top BCCI officials will also try to convince Rohit Sharma to take charge of the T20 team before announcing the team for all three formats for the South Africa tour on Thursday. After losing in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year, Rohit has not captained Team India in this format. If Rohit Sharma plays T20 series on South Africa tour, then he can also be seen in T20 World Cup.

Who will be the captain in T20 World Cup 2024?

Regular T20 captain Hardik Pandya will not be able to return for the next one month due to injury and in such a situation BCCI has no option but to keep Suryakumar Yadav as the captain or hand over this responsibility to Rohit. Rohit has earlier said that he does not want to play in the T20 format at the international level, but the way he captained in the recent ODI World Cup, BCCI feels that he should be allowed to play in this format till the T20 World Cup to be held in June-July next year. Captaincy of shorter formats should also be handled.

This big update came out

A BCCI source aware of the development told PTI on condition of anonymity that the question still remains as to what will happen upon Hardik's return, but the BCCI believes that if Rohit agrees to take charge of the T20 team next season, He will remain the captain till the T20 World Cup. If Rohit does not agree, then only Suryakumar will captain the T20 series in South Africa.
