'Pakistan has huge natural resources'

According to the Business Recorder, the senator said that 'Pakistan's vast natural resources, including mineral wealth, natural gas and marine wealth, need to be exploited for the blue economy. Thar alone has 175 billion tonnes of coal reserves, which is more than the combined oil reserves of Iran and Saudi Arabia. Thanks to CPEC, this 'black gold' is now contributing to the national economy. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has huge reserves of natural gas.

Delegation of MPs visits CPEC projects

According to the Business Recorder, a delegation of MPs visited the CPEC projects in Sindh. The MPs termed Thar as the 'bastion of future energy security of Pakistan'. The delegation was organized by Pakistan-China Institute (PCI) in association with Power China at Port Qasim and Shanghai Electric & Sindh Electric Coal Mining Company (SECMC) in Thar.

The delegation was led by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chairman of the Senate Defense Committee and PCI. During the 3-day visit, the delegation first visited the Power China project at Port Qasim, which generates 1320 MW of electricity. Guo, CEO of Power China, welcomed the delegation and briefed them about the project.

The Port Qasim Power Plant, an Early Harvest project of CPEC, provides electricity to over 4 million homes through clean energy, and emits eco-friendly white smoke using supercritical technology. The project has created jobs, provided Pakistan with more than $600 million in revenue in taxes and tariffs, and contributed to solving Pakistan's chronic energy shortage.

On the second day of the Sindh CPEC project tour, the delegation flew to Thar, where it first visited the Sindh Electric Coal Mining Company (SECMC), a joint private-public partnership with the support of the Sindh government and China. The delegation also visited the newly established 1320 MW power plant set up with investment from Shanghai Electric.

China's total investment has been $ 26 billion, which has created 85,000 jobs. 12,000 people got jobs in Thar. Also 28,000 Pakistani students now study in China, resulting in a major socio-economic transformation of the country.

More than 5000 MW of electricity has been added to the national grid and about 700 kilometers of road infrastructure has connected the Union of Pakistan together, facilitating easy and fast travel.
