The world's largest all-electric plane on Thursday took its first successful flight, that lasted for about 30 minutes. The 'eCaravan' aircraft is a Cessna 208 Caravan plane, which was fitted with a 750-horsepower electric motor made by US-based startup MagniX and modified by aerospace engineering firm AeroTEC. The aircraft, which is about 37 feet long, typically seats nine passengers.

Washington: Cessna Caravan, the world’s largest all-electric aircraft, made its first successful flight on Thursday.

The aircraft’s maiden flight lasted for around 30 minutes before landing back in Moses Lake, Washington.

The all-electric aircraft is powered by a MagniX motor. The aircraft can carry nine passengers, but only a test pilot undertook the inaugural flight, cruising at a speed of 183 kmph.

The engine maker, MagniX, hopes the electric aircraft could get into commercial service by 2021 and have a range of 160 km.

Electric motor manufacturer for electric aircraft, MagniX earlier worked with Harbour Air to power world’s first all-electric seaplane and now Cessna Caravan could become the largest zero-emissions commercial aircraft in operation by the end of 2021.
