The Shri Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended starting from July 19, 2026, as a precautionary measure following a warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding adverse weather conditions in the coming days. Ensuring the safety of the pilgrims remains the top priority for the administration, leading to the decision to halt the pilgrimage on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. On top of that, the authorities have decided that no new batch of devotees will be allowed to depart from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on July 19. Pilgrims have been strongly advised to rely only on official communications and remain at their designated accommodation centers until further instructions are issued.
Movement Halted on Both Pilgrimage Routes
Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, provided details regarding the suspension, stating that the forward movement of pilgrims on both the Pahalgam and Baltal tracks has been completely stopped effective from July 19. In addition to this, no devotee will be permitted to proceed toward the Holy Cave from the Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camps, while the official emphasized that the decision to resume the yatra will only be taken after the weather conditions normalize and a comprehensive safety assessment of both pilgrimage routes is conducted by the concerned authorities.
No New Batches from Jammu
In a similar move, the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, announced that in light of the inclement weather forecast, no fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims will be dispatched from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas toward Kashmir on July 19. He appealed to the devotees currently in transit or waiting to stay at the established accommodation centers in Jammu, Udhampur, and Ramban. The administration has clarified that these measures are strictly precautionary, aimed at protecting the pilgrims from any potential risks or hazards along the mountainous tracks during the predicted bad weather.
Resumption Contingent on Weather Improvement
The administration has reiterated that the Amarnath Yatra will only be restored once the weather improves and the safety of the tracks is fully guaranteed. All updates regarding the resumption of the pilgrimage will be shared periodically through official channels, while officials have urged the public and the devotees not to pay heed to rumors and to trust only the information provided by the administration and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB).
Over 370000 Pilgrims Have Visited So Far
Despite the current suspension, the pilgrimage has seen a significant turnout this year. So far, more than 370000 devotees have performed the darshan of the sacred Ice Lingam of Baba Barfani. The administration has assured that as soon as the weather becomes favorable and the routes are declared safe for travel, the yatra will be restarted for the remaining devotees. Until then, all yatris are requested to maintain patience and strictly adhere to the guidelines and instructions issued by the local administration.
