In a shocking incident that has raised serious security concerns, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjeet Singh of the Punjab Police was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Amritsar. The incident took place during the early hours of the morning while the officer was performing his professional duties. ASI Harjeet Singh was stationed at the Gate Hakima police station and was actively patrolling the area to maintain law and order when he was targeted by the criminals.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The attack is reported to have occurred between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM. ASI Harjeet Singh was on his motorcycle, conducting a routine patrol near the Dana Mandi area under the jurisdiction of the Gate Hakima police station. Following the murder, a group calling itself 'Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan' (TTH) has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. However, senior police officials have emphasized that the authenticity of this claim has not yet been independently verified. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed deep grief over the loss of the brave officer and paid tribute to his courage and dedication to duty. The Chief Minister stated that the state government stands firmly with the family of ASI Harjeet Singh in this hour of grief. To support the bereaved family, CM Bhagwant Mann announced an ex-gratia payment of 1 crore rupees from the Punjab government. Also, he informed that an additional insurance cover of 1 crore rupees would be provided by HDFC Bank, making the total financial assistance 2 crore rupees for the family.
