A tragic incident occurred at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) in Rawatbhata, Chittorgarh district, where a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan died after being shot by his own service rifle. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, around 4:20 AM. The local police from Rawatbhata station reached the spot immediately after receiving the information to take stock of the situation and have since informed the family members of the deceased soldier.

Details of the Incident

According to Rawatbhata Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjeev Swami, the deceased jawan, identified as 25-year-old Pramir Sarkar, was on duty on Friday night. He was stationed outside the reactor building of the third and fourth units of the power plant. The incident is reported to have occurred shortly after 4:00 AM. At that time, the sudden sound of gunfire echoed through the facility, alerting other personnel on duty.

Upon hearing the gunshots, fellow CISF jawans rushed to the spot and found Pramir Sarkar lying in a critically injured state. He was immediately rushed to the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, despite the efforts of the medical staff, the doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Following the notification of the death, SHO Sanjeev Swami arrived at the scene with a police force to conduct a thorough inspection of the site where the shooting occurred.

Victim Profile and Service History

CISF officials have provided details regarding the background of the deceased soldier. Pramir Sarkar, aged 25, was a resident of West Bengal. He belonged to the 2025 batch of the force. It has been revealed that he had joined his duty at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) only about 6 months ago. The sudden death of a young soldier who had recently started his service has caused a wave of mourning among his colleagues and the security establishment.

Investigation and Possible Angles

Preliminary observations of the body revealed 2 to 3 firing marks near the chest area of the jawan. These injuries were severe enough to cause his death on the spot. CISF officials and the local police are currently investigating the matter from multiple perspectives, while at this stage, the authorities are considering two primary possibilities: that this could be a case of suicide or that the rifle may have discharged accidentally due to some unknown reason.

The body of the deceased jawan has been kept in the mortuary of the Atomic Power Project Hospital. The police have officially informed the family members in West Bengal about the incident. The exact cause of death and the circumstances leading to the firing will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination and further technical investigation, while the police are continuing their inquiry to determine whether any external factors or personal reasons were involved in this unfortunate event.
