The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed high drama on Friday as Congress MLAs staged a vigorous protest outside the house before the commencement of the session. The opposition members made their intentions clear by targeting the state government through various symbolic gestures, including the use of pots and posters. This show of strength comes after a political controversy erupted on the first day regarding the opposition being allegedly barred from entering through a specific assembly gate. Today, the Congress legislators arrived in a united front, raising slogans and highlighting several public grievances at the main entrance of the Vidhan Sabha.
Key Issues Raised by the Opposition
The protesting MLAs carried posters that listed a series of allegations against the current administration. Among the primary concerns raised were the OMR sheet scam and the demand for student union elections. The opposition also demanded the implementation of waiting list rules for competitive examinations to benefit unemployed youth. On top of that, the posters highlighted the alarming rate of maternal deaths in Rajasthan, which the Congress party has turned into a major point of contention. By bringing these issues to the forefront, the Congress party has signaled its strategy to corner the government during the ongoing assembly proceedings.
Dotasra Slams Government Performance
Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra launched a scathing attack on the state government, claiming that it has been a total failure during its tenure of 2 and a half years. He alleged that the government is deliberately trying to divert public attention from critical issues. Dotasra pointed out that whether it's the controversy surrounding Vande Mataram or other matters, the administration is focused on distraction rather than addressing genuine public problems. He emphasized that the posters used during the protest were political tools to send a clear message that the government will be held accountable inside the house for its actions and omissions.
The Pot of Sins is Full Says Tikaram Jully
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully joined the chorus of criticism, stating that the government is attempting to mislead the public through various tactics. He remarked that the people of the state have realized the reality of the current administration, which has failed to meet their expectations. Jully accused the government of trying to suppress the opposition's voice by deploying security personnel and restricting their movement at the assembly gates. He used the metaphor of a pot to take a dig at the government, stating that the pot of sins for this government has already filled up within just 2 and a half years. He asserted that the opposition wouldn't be intimidated and would continue to raise public issues both inside and outside the assembly.
BJP Dismisses Protest as Political Stunt
On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismissed the Congress protest as mere political posturing. BJP MLA Jitendra Gothwal countered the allegations, stating that the Congress party lacks solid issues related to the public and is merely following instructions from its leadership in Delhi. Gothwal alleged that the protest was a tactic to avoid the singing of Vande Mataram in the house. He claimed that the Congress party prefers the politics of running away from discussions rather than engaging in constructive debate. According to Gothwal, the government is fully prepared to answer every question, and the opposition should participate in the assembly proceedings instead of creating a political atmosphere outside.
BAP MLAs Raise Tribal Concerns
In addition to the Congress protest, MLAs from the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) also held a demonstration regarding education and unemployment in tribal regions. Carrying placards with slogans, the BAP legislators alleged that they were stopped by security personnel at the main gate, while mLA Jaikishan Patel expressed his anger, questioning how the general public is treated if elected representatives face such hurdles. The BAP demanded strong educational facilities in tribal areas and a separate reservation for unemployed youth in first-grade job recruitments. The collective protests from various opposition factions set a stormy tone for the assembly session.
