TIRUPATI: In a tragic incident, at least ten workers were killed while several others were reportedly injured in a blast at a quarry in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district on Saturday.

It is alleged that the quarry was being operated without proper license near Mamillapalli village in Kalasapadu mandal of Kadapa district.

The incident happened when the workers were drilling holes on a granite to insert explosive material inside. And due to the presence of large quantities of explosive material at the site which exploded at once, about ten workers died on the spot while leaving several others injured.

Villagers at Mamillapalli who heard the blast and noticed thick smoke emanating from the quarry rushed to the spot and alerted the local police who shifted the injured to the local area hospital for treatment.

Senior officials of the district administration and the police department have also reached the incident site and are evaluating the reasons which led to the death of ten workers at the illegal quarry in Kadapa district.
