A devastating road accident in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, in the early. Hours of Friday, is feared to have claimed the lives of 25 passengers. The incident occurred near Chinnatekur village in Kallur mandal when a private passenger bus, en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, collided with a motorcycle. The bike reportedly got stuck under the bus and exploded, leading to a massive fire that engulfed the entire vehicle, while according to eyewitnesses, the accident took place around 3 AM. Heavy rain was reported in the area at the time, making the roads slippery and reducing visibility. The bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers, while the fire spread rapidly, leaving little time for many occupants to react.

Rescue Efforts and Casualties

Around 10 to 12 passengers managed to escape through the emergency exit, while local residents immediately initiated rescue efforts and informed the police and fire brigade. However, by the time firefighters arrived, the bus was completely charred, while the severity of the incident is evident from the fact that many bodies were burnt beyond recognition. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital, where some are in critical condition.

Police Investigation Underway

Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil stated that an FSL team has reached the spot and commenced investigation. Police have detained the additional driver of the bus, and the main driver has been summoned from the travel company, while preliminary investigations suggest that high speed and poor visibility due to rain might have contributed to the accident. Most of the passengers are believed to be migrants working between Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

CM Expresses Grief

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident. He immediately spoke with the Chief Secretary and concerned officials, instructing them to expedite relief and rescue operations. He also assured all possible assistance to the injured and the bereaved families. This tragic event once again raises serious questions about road safety measures and the regulation of private bus operations.
