An important order has been issued for the students who want to study medicine. In this, it has been announced to implement reservation for Other Backward Castes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS). In this, for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Medical / Dental courses (MBBS / MD / MS / Diploma / BDS / MDS), OBC will get 27 percent and EWS quota will get 10 percent reservation. Under the All India Quota Scheme (AIQ), this benefit can be taken from any state government-run institution. This is already implemented in the institutes of the Centre. This scheme will start from the session 2021-22.

According to the information, about 5,550 students will get the benefit of this. Every year 1500 OBC (in MBBS), 2500 OBC students will benefit in postgraduation. At the same time, 550 EWS students in MBBS and 1000 EWS students in postgraduation will be benefited every year. Let us inform that out of the total seats present in Government Medical College, 15 percent of UG (undergraduate) and 50 percent of PG (post graduate) seats come under All India Quota.

Till 2007 there was no quota under AIQ. But then in 2007, the Supreme Court had directed 15 per cent reservation for SCs and 7.5 per cent for STs.

In 2007, when the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act was enacted, OBCs also started getting the benefit of 27%. But till now the benefit was applicable in Central Educational Institutions (Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University etc.). It was not implemented in the State Medical and Dental College. Now OBC students will get this benefit.

PM Modi took review meeting

The central government had already expressed its commitment to give the benefit of reservation to backward classes and EWS. Let us inform that the government had brought a constitutional amendment in 2019, after which there was talk of giving reservation for higher education to the students of EWS category. In this, there was talk of giving 10 percent reservation to EWS. To implement this, PM Modi also held a review meeting a few days ago. The demand for reservation for OBCs under All India Quota had been rising for a long time. In the review meeting on July 26, PM Modi had talked about finding a solution to it soon.

Let us inform that a delegation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) MPs of NDA met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. He had also demanded implementation of reservation for OBC and Economically Backward (EWS) category candidates in the All India Medical Education Quota
