AAP and Goa Forward Party Form Goa First Alliance for Elections

The political landscape of Goa is witnessing a significant transformation as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Goa Forward Party (GFP) have officially joined forces for the upcoming state assembly elections. This strategic move was unveiled by AAP's National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, who introduced the coalition under the banner of Goa First. The alliance is being positioned as a credible and necessary alternative to the long-standing dominance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress in the coastal state.

The Vision Behind the Goa First Alliance

Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that the primary objective of this partnership is to provide the voters of Goa with a genuine choice. He criticized both the BJP and the Congress, alleging that while they appear to be rivals during the election campaign, they often collaborate behind closed doors when it comes to government formation and governance, while according to Kejriwal, the Goa First alliance is designed to break this cycle and prioritize the interests of the people of Goa over political maneuvering. He stated that the Goa Forward Party and the Aam Aadmi Party have come together to create Goa First, which will offer the people of Goa a real alternative.

A New Alternative for the People of Goa

Kejriwal noted that this alliance became necessary because the people of Goa have been observing the political situation for years and realized they lacked a true alternative. Historically, voters felt compelled to choose between the Congress and the BJP, despite what Kejriwal described as a collusion between the two parties, while he asserted that those who don't wish to vote for either the BJP or the Congress now have a dedicated platform in this alliance. Kejriwal expressed confidence that the coalition would win the elections and form a government on its own merit. He described the alliance as a reliable and honest partnership that remains loyal to the citizens of Goa.

Targeting the BJP and Congress

During his announcement, Arvind Kejriwal took a sharp aim at the current political establishment, stating that the people of Goa have been betrayed twice and won't be deceived a third time. He launched a scathing attack on the state government, arguing that the presence of a large number of former Congress leaders within the current administration proves it's neither a true BJP government nor a Congress government. Kejriwal characterized the current setup as a government of money and mafia, where the priority isn't Goa First but rather Pocket First. He argued that when more than half of the people in a BJP government are former Congress members, it reflects a system driven by personal gain rather than public service.

Understanding the Goa Forward Party and Current Strength

The Goa Forward Party is a prominent regional entity led by former Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sardesai. Currently, Sardesai is the sole representative of the party in the 40 member state assembly. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party currently holds two seats in the assembly, while the AAP MLAs include Venzy Viegas, representing the Benaulim constituency, and Cruz Silva, representing the Velim constituency. Both of these representatives hail from South Goa. A notable aspect of AAP's previous election strategy was mentioned, where Kejriwal had candidates sign affidavits promising not to switch parties after winning. The two current AAP MLAs have remained loyal to the party, which Kejriwal highlighted as a mark of integrity within the alliance.
