A major and remarkable milestone has been achieved regarding the bullet train project at the Ahmedabad railway station, where three new platforms have been fully prepared beneath the bullet train station to run general passenger trains of the Indian Railways. Express trains, Vande Bharat Express, and local trains can now be operated smoothly on these newly constructed platforms. For this purpose, new broad gauge rail lines have also been meticulously laid down, marking a crucial step forward in seamlessly integrating high speed rail and conventional railway services at a single common location in the country.
Under the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project, a modern bullet train station is currently being constructed in Ahmedabad. Right beneath this very station, special arrangements have been put in place for the efficient operation of regular Indian Railways trains. The heavy construction work associated with platform number 10, platform number 11, and platform number 12 has been successfully completed. These newly built platforms and their corresponding rail lines have also undergone a thorough inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, which stands as a vital procedural requirement for passenger operations.
According to Ved Prakash, the Divisional Railway Manager of the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railways, this development is a historic achievement pointing towards the continuous modernization of the Indian Railways. This infrastructure boost will substantially enhance the station capacity to handle more train movements and provide Importantly superior rail amenities to the travelling public. However, before regular passenger train operations can officially commence from these new platforms, obtaining the necessary safety clearances and completing other mandatory administrative formalities remain essential, following which train services will open for public use.
It's noteworthy that due to the extensive ongoing construction work related to the bullet train project, platform number 10 of the Ahmedabad station had remained completely closed since July 2022. Now, with the successful completion of these brand new platforms and rail lines, a massive progress has been registered towards resuming train services from this section, bringing immense relief to regular commuters.
To further strengthen the overall rail infrastructure and passenger facilities within the Ahmedabad division, several other important projects are also being actively executed, while the newly laid broad gauge bypass line situated between the Asarwa railway station and Sabarmati A cabin has also been successfully inspected. A specialized y-connectivity arrangement has been established on this particular line, which will facilitate smoother train operations across various segments of the entire rail network. Also, a fifth rail line is actively being developed between the Ahmedabad railway station and Kankaria yard, which is expected to Importantly improve train handling efficiencies and reduce heavy railway traffic congestion. Taken together, these comprehensive projects will greatly help reinforce the railway network of Ahmedabad and effectively cater to the growing travel demands of passengers in the future.
