The leader of the dreaded terrorist organization ISIS, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashmi al-Quraishi and its spokesman Abu Hamza al-Qureshi have been killed. ISIS confirmed both of their deaths on Thursday. He was killed in February by US special forces in Syria.

Abu Ibrahim was made the new leader of the organization after the death of Abu al-Bakr Baghdadi. ISIS has now announced Abu al-Hasan al-Hashmi al-Quraishi as its new leader. The death of Abu Ibrahim is another blow to ISIS. When the US claimed his death in February, this terrorist group did not deny or confirm it. On Thursday, IS spokesman Abu Omar al-Mujahir confirmed the news in a recorded statement. He said that Abu Ibrahim's last battle took place in a prison in northern Syria.

Earlier on February 3, US President Joe Biden said that the US military had killed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qureshi in a special operation. The Special American Forces personnel involved in the operation have returned safely.

How was Abu Ibrahim killed?

Abu Ibrahim took over the command of IS on 31 October 2019 after the death of former IS chief Baghdadi. He was also known as Amik Mohammed Said Abdal Rahman al-Mawla. It is reported that the US military carried out this operation at the same place where Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in 2019. An official claimed that Abu Ibrahim blew himself up by pressing the button on his suicide belt, like Baghdadi, seeing himself surrounded. In this, his family members also died along with him.

Biden administration's first major military operation in Syria

It is worth noting that earlier in 2019, the US had also killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the terrorist who founded the IS, by conducting a similar military operation in Syria. However, Baghdadi was killed during the tenure of former President Trump.
