After racing to the top of the SUV sales chart in India in just a few months since its launch, Kia is reportedly working on an EV avatar of the Seltos.

According to reports, the production of the Kia Seltos EV could begin in the second half of 2020 and will be made exclusively available for the Asian market, starting with South Korea.

According to reports, the Seltos EV is codenamed SP2 EV. The all-electric SUV is likely to have the same drivetrain as the Hyundai Kona EV. The range of the Seltos EV could be around 400 km.

When launched in India, Kia Seltos EV will compete directly with recently unveiled MG ZS EV for the sheer SUV-like size of the vehicle. The MG ZS EV, powered by 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery, can go up to 340 kilometers on a single charge.

However, it is not clear if India will get to see the Seltos EV by next year. Currently, India gets only the petrol and diesel variants of Kia Seltos. The SUV has garnered a lot of interest in India, with the company registering more than 80,000 bookings in a matter of a few months.
