The controversy started when six girl students were barred from wearing hijab at the Government PU College for Women in Udupi. When the matter progressed, the college administration held a meeting with the parents and officials of the girl students, which was inconclusive. The situation has become so bad that tension has increased after protests in many places regarding this matter, incidents of stone pelting have also come to the fore from some places. The police administration had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
