Digvajiya Singh and Shashi Tharoor will compete

Ashok Gehlot has announced not to contest the election of Congress President at a time when senior party leader Digvijaya Singh is preparing to file nomination papers for this election. Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor will file nomination for the Speaker's post on September 30.

Amid the political crisis in Rajasthan, party observers Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken on Tuesday (September 27) recommended disciplinary action against three leaders close to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for "gross indiscipline". Shortly after this, 'show cause notices' were issued to them by the disciplinary action committee of the party.

Before the crisis in Rajasthan, Gehlot had said that he would file nomination for the post of party president. However, his candidature was questioned only after the political developments in the state. Now after meeting Sonia Gandhi, he made it clear that he is not going to contest elections.
