NEW DELHI: All schools in Delhi will be closed for all classes due to the surge in covid-19 cases, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday. The decision is applicable for all the schools including government and private.

Schools in the national capital are directed to remain closed till further orders from the government. "Due to increasing cases of Covid, all schools (including government, private) in Delhi are being closed for all classes till further orders," Kejriwal tweeted.

On Thursday, Delhi recorded the highest single-day rise in Covid-19 cases with 7,437 more persons testing positive for the viral infection in 24 hours.

The death toll rose to 11,157 with 24 fresh fatalities due to the infection. The test positivity rate increased to 8.1% from 6.1% the previous day reflecting the fast spread of the disease.

The Delhi government on Tuesday imposed a night curfew in the state from 10 pm to 5 am because of the rise in the cases till April 30.
