Anant Singh Setback: Supreme Court Orders Surrender in Dularchand Yadav Case

The Supreme Court has cancelled the bail of Mokama MLA Anant Singh and directed him to surrender by December 1 in the Dularchand Yadav murder case.

In a major legal setback, Mokama MLA Anant Singh has faced strict action from the Supreme Court of India. The apex court has directed the JD(U)-expelled MLA Anant Singh to surrender by December 1 in connection with the high-profile Dularchand Yadav murder case. This sensitive matter stems from an incident in Mokama where Dularchand Yadav lost his life. Last week, the Bihar government had filed a counter-affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that the allegations leveled against Anant Singh and other co-accused in the Dularchand murder case are substantiated and correct.

This crucial order was passed during the hearing of a petition filed by Neeraj, the grandson of the deceased Dularchand Yadav, while the petition challenged the bail granted to Anant Singh by the Patna High Court and sought its immediate cancellation. The Bihar government strongly supported this plea in its counter-affidavit. According to official records, the murder of Dularchand Yadav took place on October 30, 2025, in the midst of campaigning for the Bihar assembly elections.

Supreme Court Orders Completion of Investigation Within Four Months

During the court proceedings, the Supreme Court made a clear and stern observation, stating that viewing a murder case merely as a political dispute is entirely incorrect. Staying the bail order issued by the Patna High Court, the bench noted that the investigation in the matter is still ongoing and witness examinations will take place during the trial, while the court emphasized that Anant Singh must surrender without any exception.

On top of that, the apex court directed the police to wrap up the detailed investigation into the case within a span of four months. Earlier, counsels representing Anant Singh had requested the court to defer the surrender requirement, citing his daughter wedding as a ground. However, the Supreme Court turned down the plea and firmly ordered the Mokama MLA to surrender by December 1.

Details of the Dularchand Yadav Murder Case in Mokama

As per the details available, the murder of Dularchand Yadav occurred when the convoy of Anant Singh crossed paths with him. Anant Singh was contesting the elections from Mokama on a Janata Dal United ticket, whereas Dularchand Yadav was openly supporting the candidate backed by the Jan Suraaj Party. During this political face-off, a violent clash broke out between the supporters of both rival factions, resulting in the tragic death of Dularchand Yadav. Following this violent episode, Anant Singh and several other individuals were arrested by law enforcement agencies.

During the initial stages of the investigation, it was widely claimed that Dularchand Yadav had sustained fatal bullet injuries. However, the subsequent post-mortem report clarified that Dularchand Yadav death was actually caused by a vehicle impact or a potential heart attack rather than gunfire. Banking on this medical report and other legal submissions, Anant Singh managed to secure bail from the Patna High Court in March of the following year, 2026.

Bihar Government Affidavit and Extensive Criminal Record

The Bihar government had formally informed the Supreme Court that following detailed supervision conducted at the levels of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and the Superintendent of Police, a chargesheet was filed in January 2026 against Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur, and Ranjeet Ram. Also, the affidavit submitted by the state government highlighted a staggering total of 62 criminal cases registered against the Mokama MLA, encompassing serious charges such as murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion, and violations of the Arms Act.

Expulsion from JD(U) During the MLC Election Period

It's noteworthy that the controversial Mokama MLA Anant Singh was recently expelled from the Janata Dal United party, while during the MLC elections held on October 23 for the Patna Graduates constituency, Anant Singh openly rebelled against his own party official candidate and actively campaigned for the Jan Suraaj nominee. Due to this blatant act of defiance and indiscipline, the JD(U) leadership expelled both Anant Singh and his wife Neelam Devi from the primary membership of the party for a period of six years.
