Bihar News: Before the Bihar assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is continuously making populist announcements. The latest announcement has brought a relief news for the journalists of the state. The Chief Minister has announced a two and a half times increase in the monthly pension amount under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Scheme. Now eligible journalists will be given Rs 15,000 as pension instead of Rs 6,000 every month.Dependents will also get benefitsAlong with this announcement, Nitish Kumar has also amended the amount received by the dependent spouse of the journalists after their death. Now the dependent spouse will be given a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 instead of Rs 3,000. Sharing this information on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said that the concerned department has been ordered to implement these instructions.The role of journalists is important in democracyThe Chief Minister described journalists as the "fourth pillar" of democracy and said that their role is important in bringing positive change and transparency in the society. He said, "The state government has always been committed to providing facilities to journalists to work impartially and fearlessly. It is our priority that they do not face any difficulty in leading a respectable life after retirement."Public interest announcements in election seasonThis announcement by Nitish Kumar has come at a time when the term of Bihar Legislative Assembly is ending on 22 November 2025. It is estimated that elections may be held in October or November 2025. Although the Election Commission has not yet officially announced the dates, the program is likely to be decided keeping in mind Diwali and Chhath festival.
