New Delhi : Asaduddin Owaisi's party India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) will support the opposition candidate Margaret Alva in the Vice Presidential election. Party MP Imtiaz Jaleel gave this information on Thursday. The announcement by the AIMIM came soon after a meeting of opposition leaders held at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar.

Margaret Alva was also present in this meeting of opposition leaders in the capital Delhi. AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel said, "We discussed Margaret Alva's name and decided that the entire AIMIM party will support her, help her and stand by her." She is a woman and comes from a minority background. The country will be happy to see him, we wish him success.

Alva appeals to everyone

Earlier today, Alva appealed to all lawmakers to vote without fear or political pressure for the most suitable candidate for the crucial post. In a video message, she claimed that she is the best candidate as she has experience and will act impartially from the chair, apart from committing herself to building a consensus on issues of national importance.

Election to be held on 6th August

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Wednesday announced its support for the opposition's vice presidential candidate Margaret Alva. The election of the Vice President is to be held on August 6 as the tenure of the incumbent M Venkaiah Naidu ends on August 10.

Nomination filed on 19th July

Alva filed her nomination for the Vice Presidential election on 19 July. The opposition parties on July 17 decided to field the former Rajasthan governor as their joint candidate for the Vice Presidential election. The decision to field Alva was taken after a meeting of opposition leaders of 17 parties at the residence of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.
