Battling a Life-Threatening Illness
Varma recounted that in 2022, while playing an India A series in Bangladesh, he was struck by a severe and life-threatening condition called Rhabdomyolysis during batting. This illness causes muscle tissue to break down, releasing harmful proteins. Like myoglobin into the bloodstream, which can severely damage the kidneys. He vividly recalled the terrifying moments when he was nearing a century; his eyes began. To strain, his fingers became numb, and his entire body stiffened as if turning to stone. He had to retire hurt, and his gloves had to be cut off because his fingers couldn't bend.
Akash Ambani and Jay Shah's Timely Intervention
