Bangladesh News: On Monday, an FT-7BGI fighter jet of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the Milestone College campus, north of Dhaka. The training aircraft crashed at 1:30 pm, just minutes after taking off from Hazrat Shahjahan International Airport at 1:06 pm. The pilot has been confirmed dead in the accident, while students present in the college campus are feared to be casualties. According to Bangladeshi media, the aircraft was manufactured by China. The cause of the accident is yet to be known.Situation at the sceneThe accident occurred due to a collision with a three-storey building of Milestone College. Eyewitness Sadman Ruhsin told The Daily Star that the plane directly hit the college building, after which there was chaos there. Many students were present in the college at the time of the accident, due to which there is a possibility of large-scale casualties. Dhaka's fire service immediately responded and sent eight fire engines to the spot. Relief and rescue operations are still underway.Eyewitness statementA physics teacher of Milestone College said that he was in the 10-storey building of the college at the time of the accident, while the fighter jet hit a nearby three-storey building. After the collision, the building caught fire and many students were trapped. The teacher said that some students were severely burnt. Immediately after the accident, the teachers and staff of the college rushed to rescue the students, and in a short time the army and fire brigade personnel reached the spot.Relief and rescue workAccording to eyewitnesses, after the accident, the injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals through rickshaws and other vehicles. Army and fire service teams are engaged in relief and rescue work. So far no official information has been given about the death toll or the condition of the injured in the accident.Accident confirmedA senior official of Hazrat Shahjahan International Airport has confirmed the accident. According to Inter Services Public Relations, the FT-7BGI is a training aircraft, used for pilot training. Officials have begun investigating the cause of the accident, but no concrete information has been revealed yet.
