Africa won the first ODI between India and South Africa by 31 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, SA made a score of 296/4. Raisey van der Dussen scored an unbeaten 129 and captain Temba Bauma scored 110. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah took two and R Ashwin took one wicket for India.

Team India had a target of 297 runs, in response to which the team could score 265/8 runs and lost the match. Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer with 79, while former captain Virat Kohli scored 51 runs. Shardul Thakur also scored an unbeaten 50 while batting well. For Africa, Tabrez Shamsi and Lungi Ngidi took two wickets each. With the win, South Africa have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Dussen, who scored 129 runs, was adjudged the player of the match.

Indian middle order laid down arms

Chasing the target, India's first wicket fell in the form of captain KL Rahul (12). Dhawan and Kohli added 92 runs for the second wicket. The wicket of Shikhar Dhawan (79) fell on the score of 138. After this, it was as if the line of wickets had just started. Kohli (51), Shreyas Iyer (17), Rishabh Pant (16) and debutant Venkatesh Iyer (2) were dismissed for runs. After losing the second wicket at 138, India lost six wickets at 188.

However, batting at number eight, Shardul Thakur scored an unbeaten 50 off 43 balls. This was his first half-century in ODIs. Bumrah also scored an unbeaten 14. The second match between the two teams will be played in Paarl on Friday, January 21.

Virat Kohli has become the Indian batsman to score the most ODI runs at home of rival teams outside India as he took the 9th run of the innings. He broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin had scored a total of 5065 runs in the home of opposition teams outside India.

India's spinners failing

South Africa's three wickets fell on the score of 68 runs. After this, Bauma and Dussen took charge of the team with a partnership of 204 runs for the fourth wicket. India gave a chance to two spinners (Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal) in this match. But together they gave 106 runs in 20 overs and could take only 1 wicket. Venkatesh Iyer was included in the all-round playing-11 but captain KL Rahul did not give him even 1 over.

Bumrah took ODI wicket after 412 days

Jasprit Bumrah took a wicket after 412 days in ODI cricket. He took the last wicket on December 2, 2020 in the ODI match played against Australia. After this match, he was rested from the 50 over format. He returned to the team against Africa and showed the way to the pavilion by dismissing Yaneman Malan.

Rahul made big records with his captaincy debut

KL Rahul is taking charge of Team India for the first time in the 50 over format. He has been made the captain of the ODI team after the injury of Rohit Sharma. Rahul is the 26th player from India to captain in ODIs. At the same time, KL (39) has also become the second player from India, who is leading the team without playing the first 50 ODIs. The first name comes from Mohinder Amarnath (35 ODIs).

Rahul became the third player, after Syed Kirmani and Virender Sehwag, to lead India in ODIs without captaincy in List A cricket. Recently he was also seen captaining in the second Test against Africa.
