The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested Bhim Army chief Nawab Satpal Tanwar for announcing a reward for the one who cut the tongue of expelled Bharatiya Janata Party member Nipur Sharma. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) KPS Malhotra confirmed this and said that Tanwar has been arrested from Gurugram.

Police said that an FIR was registered against Tanwar under sections 153A, 504, 506, 509 of the Indian Penal Code at the Special Cell police station on June 9. On 8 June, Tanwar announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for anyone who cut off Sharma's tongue and said that Sharma was insulting Muslims and Prophet Mohammad as well as Indians across the world.

Delhi Police has also registered a case against Nupur Sharma and over 30 others for allegedly spreading hatred on social media and other platforms. The police had said that an FIR has been registered under various sections for spreading hate messages, inciting different groups and creating a harmful situation to disturb public peace. "An FIR has been registered against several persons probing the role of social media entities in promoting false and incorrect information with the intention of creating unrest in the cyberspace," Malhotra said.
