India / BSF SI martyred, jawan injured in Pak ceasefire violation along LoC

Sri Nagar: One Border Security Personnel (BSF) personnel, three soldiers and three civilians were killed and eight others were injured in ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in four districts of J&K on Friday.

"Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC spread across multiple sectors to include Dawar, Keran, Uri and Naugam. Pakistan deliberately targeted civilian areas. Three Indian Army soldiers have been killed in action and three soldiers injured," an Army spokesman said.

The Indian Army in retaliation targetted several ammunition dumps, dumps and multiple terrorists launch pads, the spokesman said.

Earlier in the day, an official said one BSF Sub-Inspector was killed when a mortar shell fired from across the LoC exploded in Baramulla's Uri.

A BSF spokesman said SI Takesh Doval "sustained head injury" in shelling around 12:20 p.m. and succumbed later.

"Three civilians, including a woman, were also killed in the mortar shelling and firing in Baramulla's Uri," an official said.

Five civilians were also injured in north Kashmir's Bandipora when shelling hit the Bagtore Sector in Gurez. "All the five injured are stable," an official said.

At least three civilians were reported injured in the Sawjian Sector in the Pir Panjal's Poonch in Pakistan shelling. "A bus stand was hit by the shelling, leaving the civilians injured," an official in Poonch said.

The Indian Army said Pakistan resorted to "unprovoked" firing and shelling around 1:45 p.m in Poonch. "Indian army retaliates befittingly," a Jammu-based Army spokesman said.

Infiltration bid foiled in Kupwara: Army

Meanwhile, a Srinagar-based Army spokesman said suspicious movement was observed at the forward posts along the LoC in the Keran Sector on Friday and a suspected infiltration bid was foiled.

"This was accompanied by initiation of an unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) by Pakistan along the LoC in Keran Sector by firing mortars and other weapons. A befitting response is being given," the Army said.

The India Army is well poised to defeat all attempts by Pakistan to infiltrate terrorists into J&K, the spokesman said.

The ceasefire violations by Pakistan has impacted areas located along the LoC in Kupwara's Keran, Baramulla's Uri, Bandipora's Gurez and Poonch Sectors.
