Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, currently on a visit to India, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. On this occasion, PM Modi stated that her India visit would provide new momentum to the bilateral partnership between the two countries. PM Modi shared pictures of his meeting with the Canadian Foreign Minister on social media platform 'X'. He wrote, 'Welcomed Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, while discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, energy, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges for mutual growth and prosperity. ' A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) also confirmed this, stating that the Prime Minister welcomed the Canadian. Foreign Minister and noted that her visit would contribute to ongoing efforts to give new impetus to the India-Canada bilateral partnership.

Efforts to Mend Strained Ties

This marks Anita Anand's first visit to India since assuming the role of Canadian Foreign Minister in May this year. During the meeting, PM Modi recalled his visit to Canada for the G7 Summit in June this year and mentioned having a 'very fruitful' meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during that time. Foreign Minister Anita Anand's visit is being viewed as a significant step towards re-establishing bilateral relations, which severely deteriorated. In 2023 following then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations of a potential Indian link to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The current meeting aims to foster an improved relationship between India and Canada.
