West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has cautioned the people of the state against eating meat in hotels and restaurants. The Chief Minister has expressed apprehension that the meat of animals killed during the Yas cyclone may be sold in hotels and restaurants. It is then served to the customers. Along with this, CM Mamata Banerjee has ordered the state police officers to conduct raids at places where such meat can be stored. Mamta Banerjee said, 'There are people who sell the meat of dead animals to hotels and restaurants. This is then served to the customers. Earlier also we had busted such a racket.

In April 2018, the Bengal Police busted a racket near Kolkata that used to sell the meat of dead animals at dumping grounds. It was revealed in the investigation that the meat of the dead animals was processed by adding chemicals. After this, it was kept in temperature up to -44 °C. It was then sold in states like Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Assam. CM Banerjee said that the meat of dead animals is stored only in select places and then they are sold to restaurants and hotels.

Large number of deaths of animals and birds due to floods

During the review meeting of the damage caused by the Yas cyclone, CM Mamata Banerjee ordered the administration, 'Check such places where such meat can be stored and sold. If so, seize it immediately and take action. Apart from this, bury the dead animal.' Officials told in the meeting that a few thousand animals and poultry birds have died due to the Yas cyclone. Due to this, flood-like situation was seen in villages in many areas of West Bengal. Due to this also a large number of animals and birds have died.

Officials said, there are still dead animals lying everywhere in many villages

“Even now, 63 villages in 14 blocks are inundated with flood water due to the yaas,” an official said. There are dead animals lying there and due to this there is also a danger of spreading some diseases. Cabinet minister Subrata Mukherjee was also present in Mamta's review meeting. He said that even dead fish can be sold in restaurants. He said that the water of the rivers has entered the villages and due to this the fishes living in the clean water have died.
