This port was temporarily opened not once but twice so far this year. The first was opened for two days on January 19 and 20, in which a total of 40 cargo units passed. Opened for the second time from 30 January to 10 February.

Road remains closed from December to March

This area with high altitude, low temperature and low oxygen is kept closed in winter from 1 December to 1 March. Due to snowfall in India, the operation of large cargo trucks is very difficult and there is no movement of any kind from this pass, but considering the current need of Pakistan, this port has been opened. More than 300 trucks loaded with groceries, auto parts, polyester clothes and other goods reached Gilgit Baltistan from the Chinese side.

This road is most important because it is an important link of Xi Jinping's ambitious project of BRI, because through this China is going from CPEC to Gwadar in Pakistan. But in the current situation of Pakistan, this project seems to have come to a standstill and there is strong opposition in Gilgit Baltistan regarding this project of China. In such a situation, it is believed that in the name of humanitarian aid, China wants to create a soft corner for itself in the heart of the people of Pakistan, so that the obstacles in its project are reduced.
