Rajasthan News: Now electricity consumers will not have to pay fuel surcharge in Rajasthan. CM Ashok Gehlot has announced complete waiver of fuel surcharge for consumers consuming more than 200 units of electricity. During the launch of the free smart phone scheme on Thursday, Gehlot said that instead of waiving the fuel surcharge, the government will give Rs 2,500 crore to the power companies. Fuel surcharge for agricultural and domestic consumers is now completely abolished.

Gehlot said- There was a demand of the people from the state that fuel surcharge should be abolished. Earlier fuel surcharge was waived up to 200 units. Now no matter how many units are there, no fuel surcharge will have to be paid. With this announcement of CM, the common electricity consumer will get less electricity bill every month. Its effect will be seen from the next bill. After the CM's announcement, all the power companies have started the exercise. The data in the billing software will be updated.

100 units of free electricity was announced in the budget

The CM had announced free electricity up to 100 units in the budget this year. Later it was announced to waive fuel surcharge up to 200 units. Fuel surcharge is charged for consuming more than 200 units of electricity. On an average, a fuel surcharge of 30 to 70 paise per unit is charged on each unit. The rate of fuel surcharge varies from bill to bill.

Fuel surcharge increases even after increase in coal rate

Power companies charge fuel surcharge even after increasing the rates of coal used in electricity production. For this a petition has to be filed in the regulatory commission. Fuel surcharge is levied after approval from the regulatory commission. The amount of fuel surcharge is not fixed but variable.

The government recently passed the bill

The government had recently passed the bill in the Vidhan Sabha, in which now the government can issue an order to charge up to Re 1 per unit, for this there will be no need to file a petition in the Regulatory Commission. This bill was passed without any debate or uproar.

Fuel surcharge was made an issue by the opposition

Due to increase in fuel surcharge in electricity bills, the electricity bill of the people was increasing. For the last several months, the opposition had made surcharge an issue. Congress MLAs had also given feedback about the loss in the election year due to increase in fuel surcharge. After this the CM has announced to waive the fuel surcharge. The government has already announced to give free electricity to the farmers in the election year.
