Bhopal: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh invited stand-up comedians Kunal Kamra and Munawar Faruqui to hold programme in Bhopal after they were recently not allowed to perform in Bengaluru.

Earlier this month, Kamra, a Mumbai-based comedian, said his event in Bengaluru had been cancelled “over threats to shut down the venue”.

“Firstly, we didn’t get special permissions to seat 45 people in the venue that can seat more. Secondly, threats have been made to shut down the venue if I were to ever perform there. I guess this is also part of the COVID-19 protocol and new guidelines. I suppose I am seen as a variant of the virus now,” Kamra had posted on Twitter.

Kamra was scheduled to hold a show titled ‘Kunal Kamra Live’ in south Bengaluru between December 1 and 19.

Earlier, Faruqui was also denied permission for his show in Karnataka’s capital as the police asked the organisers to call it off citing possible law and order problems.

Faruqui was in jail for a month earlier this year on charges of “insulting Hindu gods and goddesses” during one of his shows.
