Hyderabad. Controversy has erupted over Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's proposed visit to Osmania University in Hyderabad. Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Telangana on May 6 and 7 and in the meantime he was about to visit the university and interact with the students. The matter has now reached the court. A group of students has appealed to the court to allow it, terming it an "non-political" discussion. University officials have reportedly said that such programs cannot be allowed as no political activity is allowed inside the campus.

NDTV quoted officials as saying that following the High Court order in June 2017, the university had adopted a resolution not to allow non-academic activities on the campus, including political activities. However, a university professor G Vinod Kumar said that if issues are discussed between Rahul Gandhi and the students, it is an intellectual programme. Congress leaders have reacted sharply to this controversy. He says that this is being done at the behest of the state's ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi. They are trying to keep Rahul Gandhi away from the ground zero institution for the Telangana movement.

Congress youth wing NSUI protested for refusing permission for Rahul Gandhi's program. When the activists raised slogans in the premises, they were taken into custody by the police. In view of the performance of NSUI, student wing of TRS and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad of BJP also protested. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Revanth says that Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting in Warangal on May 6. Around five lakh people are expected to attend the public meeting.
