India / COVID-19 recovery rate in India exceeds 49% for 1st time, over 52 lakh tests conducted

The coronavirus recovery rate in India has exceeded 49% for the first time, the government announced today. As of June 11, the recovery rate stands at 49.21% with a total of 1,41,029 patients having been cured/discharged/migrated. India's coronavirus recovery rate was 26.59% on May 3. Further, India has tested as many as 52,13,140 coronavirus samples till date.

New Delhi: While India’s COVID-19 tally continues to surge with nearly 10,000 cases of novel coronavirus disease recorded every day for the past several days, the heartening fact is that the country’s recovery rate also continues to go up.

As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate is witnessing a steady improvement and the same has now exceeded 49% for the first time.

As on June 11 morning, India’s coronavirus recovery rate stands at a healthy 49.21%.

The Health Ministry, in its Thursday morning update on its website, stated that the death toll in the country due to COVID-19 has jumped to 8,102 while the confirmed coronavirus cases stand at 2,86,579.

Wednesday witnessed the highest single-day spike of 357 deaths and 9,996 cases.

The number of recovered patients continued to be more than the active cases for the second consecutive day today.

As of Thursday morning, the active cases are at 1,37,448 while 1,41,028 patients suffering from COVID-19 have recovered. One patient had migrated to another country in the initial days of the coronavirus case in India.

"Thus, around 49.21 per cent patients have recovered so far," an official said.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India also includes foreigners.

Of the total deaths, Maharashtra leads with 3,438 fatalities followed by Gujarat with 1,347 deaths, Delhi with 984, Madhya Pradesh with 427, West Bengal with 432, Tamil Nadu with 326, Uttar Pradesh with 321, Rajasthan with 259 and Telangana with 156 deaths.

The death toll has touched 78 in Andhra Pradesh, 69 in Karnataka, 55 in Punjab, 51 in Jammu and Kashmir, 52 in Haryana, 33 in Bihar, 18 in Kerala, 15 in Uttarakhand, nine in Odisha and eight in Jharkhand.

Over 70 per cent COVID-19 deaths in India have been due to comorbidities, the Health Ministry says.
